Electric car
At night, the house will power an electric car. This will, according to this post, not require new power plants, because it will use available capacity at night.
AC/DC
Have both AC and DC outlets. Most of what I use these days either is DC or could be. But I get AC power and convert it using a transformer that awkwardly sticks out of the wall. Let's all agree on a standard and rewire to DC, so I don't waste electricity. Also, I could use solar panels and feed directly off a battery. Here's a post on Treehugger covering this well.

What is Genius House?
Imagine a house designed to make life easy and completely self-sufficient. No electric bill, gas bill, water bill, or any other kind of bill. A house you could build and then retire in with no need to work.
To build something like that, you'd have to be a genius. In fact, you'd have to be much more: an architect, electrical engineer, fluids engineer, and all around super nerd all in one to design and build something like that.
What good are these individual ideas if no one person can use or even find them all.
I started this site, because I have read lots of disparate--individually brilliant--ideas, but I have never seen one place where they are all integrated into one place for someone who isn't all of those things. I am using this site to collect information for my own house. Hopefully, some day I'll have enough of the pieces of the puzzle fitted together that I can build it.
If you care about making the world a better place and if you have the knowledge, please contribute to this site.
